Background

The Warders’ Cottages Block 1 were built in 1851 and utilised as accommodation for the Warders of the nearby Fremantle Prison. This period is of high cultural and historic significance to the City, State and Nation and is preserved through the careful restoration and interpretation of this national heritage asset. Preservation policies of the Convict Establishment Precinct allowed for additional diversity and public interaction, and from this the Warders Hotel project was born.
